Nominations open for new Members and Chair of the Global Sustainability Standards Board

The GRI Supervisory Board has launched a global call for nominations to join GRI’s independent standard-setting body, the Global Sustainability Standards Board, from 1 April 2026.

The Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) has sole responsibility for setting GRI’s widely used sustainability reporting standards. Composed of multi-stakeholder experts from around the world, the GSSB works exclusively in the public interest, ensuring that the GRI Standards are developed independently and in the public interest.

There are five positions open on the GSSB, including the role of Chair, with applicants representing any of the following constituency groups encouraged to apply: businesses, investors, labor bodies, civil society, and mediating institutions. The call for nominations is open until 26 October 2025, 23:59 CEST

As GRI’s independent standard setting body, the GSSB plays a critical role in ensuring that organizations globally are able to understand and report their most significant impacts on the economy, environment and people. We are looking for applicants from around the world, with the skills and knowledge to provide leadership, direction and oversight for our standard setting work. You will join a talented and highly motivated group of board members bringing diverse expertise from across stakeholder groups, helping to ensure that the GRI Standards continue to play an important role in enabling sustainable outcomes.

Jessica Fries, Chair of the GRI Supervisory Board

The GSSB is composed of recognized experts in sustainability reporting or related fields. Members ensure the credibility and global relevance of the GRI Standards, while the Chair provides leadership and governance oversight.

The membership renewal process reinforces the GSSB’s continuing position in providing authoritative global leadership for GRI reporting on impacts on the economy, environment and people.  Board members ensure that standards development reflects global best practice and is conducted with transparency, technical rigor and in accordance with due process.

The Supervisory Board seeks to ensure that the composition of the GSSB demonstrates balance across regions, genders and stakeholder groups. All positions are on taken up on a voluntary basis, with successful candidates appointed for a three-year term. The process is also open to current board members, who have completed a single term and wish to apply for reappointment.

GSSB Members contribute through regular in-person and virtual meetings, in addition to preparation and review work. The role of Chair requires a strong global perspective, impartiality and effective leadership skills.

Applicants are asked to submit a nomination form, cover letter, CV and employer’s statement (if relevant). Find out more about the role specifications and details of the nomination process.
