Strengthening sustainability leadership in Latin America’s agricultural value chains

GRI and U.S. Soybean Export Council work together to enhance corporate transparency in the sector

A shared commitment to achieving sustainable value chains in the agricultural sector is reinforcing a partnership between GRI Latin America and the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC).

At the heart of this collaboration is a shared challenge: as global markets demand clearer, more comparable information on environmental and social impacts, companies across agricultural supply chains must be able to communicate those impacts in a consistent and comparable way.

That’s why GRI and USSEC started working together in 2022, bringing together GRI’s sustainability reporting expertise with USSEC’s commitment to sustainable agricultural production. Through knowledge sharing and capacity building, the two organizations have equipped stakeholders across the Latin American supply chain — from farmers to importers to consumers

During 2025, the project saw workshops on reporting and materiality delivered to USSEC members in Mexico, Costa Rica and Peru. In total more than 100 people from 11 countries in the region have taken part.  Furthermore, GRI has supported the USSEC to train more than 50 executives across Latin America through the GRI Professional Certification Programstrengthening their ability to implement the GRI Standards and utilize sustainability data.

Our partnership with USSEC reflects the outcomes of coming together with a shared commitment to transparency. By building capacity across the soy value chain, we are helping create the conditions for more sustainable global agriculture grounded in credible data, multistakeholder dialogue, and real accountability.

Andrea Pradilla, Director GRI Latin America

Through our partnership with GRI, Latin American end-users and importers are better equipped to demonstrate their sustainability commitments, aligned with the high standards of U.S. soy farmers. Together, we’re strengthening trust, transparency, and collaboration across the global soy supply chain.

Luis Bustamante, Sustainability Lead at USSEC Americas

Looking ahead, GRI and USSEC collaboration in Latin America is set to continue in 2026, with further training and joint workshops that will look to raise further the bar for responsible production across global soy supply chains.
