The DPOC
The DPOC has the primary responsibility of ensuring that the standard-setting activities of the GRI Global Sustainability Standards Board (‘GSSB’) are conducted in accordance with its due process as defined in the Due Process Protocol, to increase public and stakeholder confidence that the standards are developed in the public interest.
The issuance by the GSSB of a GRI Standard and related Interpretations, as defined in the Due Process Protocol, requires DPOC approval that due process has been followed in their development.
The DPOC Member’s Role
Position Summary
DPOC members provide independent oversight of the GSSB’s standard setting development process to ensure compliance with the GRI Due Process Protocol and the public interest. Through review, observation, and approval activities, members help maintain the integrity, transparency, and credibility of GRI Standards and related Interpretations.
Appointed by: The GRI Supervisory Board
Term: A three-year term, with a possible renewal for a second term.
Time Commitment
Approximately four virtual meetings a year, as required on matters related to due process, including meeting preparations, document review, and submitting comments.
Reimbursement
Participation as a member of the DPOC is voluntary. GRI reimburses reasonable travel-related expenses, if necessary, according to its Travel Policy.
Key Responsibilities
All specific responsibilities are outlined in the DPOC Bylaws
- Oversee compliance with the GRI Due Process Protocol
- Approve that GRI Standards and Interpretations have met due process requirements.
- Review reports and other evidence to assess adherence to due process requirements.
- Support expedited review and approval of urgent interpretations and guidance as required.
- Review and evaluation grievances relate do the application of the Due Process Protocol.
- Attend and actively participate in DPOC meetings, self-evaluations, and other oversight activities while exercising independent and impartial judgment.

Nominations and appointment process
The GRI Supervisory Board is seeking qualified applicants for the DPOC member positions effective 1 January 2027. We welcome nominations from all GRI stakeholder constituencies. A definition of GRI’s constituencies can be found here. DPOC members are appointed for a term of three years and are eligible to serve two consecutive terms.

Nominations received after the deadline cannot be considered. The Supervisory Board will shortlist candidates and conduct interviews shortly thereafter. The Supervisory Board is committed to consider both regional and gender balance on the DPOC in making appointments.
